Boulevardier by Jason Wasserman
Title : Boulevardier - MTL Boroughs
Artist : Jason Wasserman
Exhibition : May 9th - May 23rd 2024
S16 Gallery - 377 Saint-Paul West, Montreal
Boulevardier is an illustrated love letter to Montreal. Featuring cityscape portraits inspired by each borough's unique flavour, the exhibition offers an unvarnished look at the metropolis in all its crumbling glory. Lovingly hand-rendered in a black & white vocabulary of vintage comic art and typography, these lushly detailed artworks invite immersion into each neighbourhood's complex character.
Boulevardier is part of an ongoing body of work, begun in 2014, that is deeply rooted in the landscape of Montreal, and has in the last decade become the conceptual focus of Wasserman's artwork. The exhibit displays 17 neighbourhoods represented so far, as well as new original paintings, limited edition woodcuts and sculptures. Exhibited all together for the first time, the collection connects a narrative that leads the viewer on an authentic journey into Montreal.
