Artist Bio

Brian Lanier XRAY

A native Floridian, XRAY (Bryan Lanier) immigrated to Canada in 2008 and has since become a prominent figure in the Montreal arts scene.  Besides having a prolific studio practice; XRAY is also a world class muralist who has produced many large scale murals. Notable collaborations include numerous projects with the renowned MU organization and Montreal's MURAL Festival.  XRAY is most known for his mixed media pieces that combine classical aesthetics & mythology with modern pop mythology such as comic books. He's also known for his "tropical flavored" paintings that reference American pop culture and advertising from the 1950's to the present with a strong affinity for the 1980's & 90's. He's currently producing a series of text based "meme paintings". XRAY has been described as a contemporary artist with "street DNA". He works in the heritage of developing distinct series while maintaining a signature thread throughout. With a strong foundation in traditional composition & technique; XRAY also incorporates sign painting, industrial and street processes into his art.
